So new years: I've been in 'get to know new people' mode for the last two months, feeling the need to broaden my circle of friends and acquaintances after sending to much time as a hermit for the last 4 years or so. I was thinking I'd avoid getting involved romantically for a while, but rather work on just making friends, and I've had some interesting 'friend dates' to this end with old friends I had lost touch with, and new contacts as well.

In the last two months, in addition to generally being more open and present with my existing comrades, I've met a zine publisher and single mom studying fascinating things at York, reconnected with an old writer friend and agreed to collaborate on a story with him, had Susie with another writer friend and reaffirmed our intention of staying in closer touch, met one new person via the web from the same cultural background as myself, and two more on the buss back home - all the children of hippies and beats with whom I find a lingua franca with via our shared perspectives on life.

New years day I met with someone on what I though at first would be another friend date, a fascinating lady studying to be an art therapist. But what can I say, Sarah charmed me. Ended up spending the afternoon talking, and decided to join her for a new years with her old child hood friends and the extended family that has grown around them. Here are some photos from that night. Sarah is the blond who keeps managing to duck out of shots and blushes fiercely when finally caught.
